“My music is about being strong, even in your vulnerability.”
– Miranda Lambert
Most people seem to think that strength is about being tough and stoic when things are crumbling down around them. But life has taught me that strength is something else. Being vulnerable takes more strength than people realize and it is often looked down upon. However, the bravery that it takes to let others see you as you are when you don’t feel strong is a type of strength. It is not easy to take that armor off but letting go can lead you to new possibilities and can allow you to heal.
“I think where men are credited for being strong, women are divas. I just think it’s such a cop out.”
– Natalie Imbruglia
It seems that the way that we view strength and think about it is wrong. Showing our feelings is a strength when the word says that you shouldn’t. Coming out and being who you are in a world that would shun you is strength. Being strong and celebrating yourself are things that go hand in hand if you are in a place where it is looked down upon to be yourself. Be a strong woman or be a male diva if that is who you are!
“True strength is keeping everything together when everyone expects you to fall apart.” – Unknown
Sometimes you have to fall apart inside to find your strength. Holding it together isn’t easy but it may be the only way to get through your struggle. Once you get through it rest and let yourself fall apart some. Building yourself back up builds your strengths. Much like working out and then resting builds muscles, falling apart and coming back together builds internal strength.
“The most beautiful people I’ve known are those who have known trials, have known struggles, have known loss, and have found their way out of the depths.” – Elisabeth Kübler-Ross
Trials, struggles, and loss are things that we all face in our life times. We find our strengths in our own ways. Sometimes we stumble and fall then, we get back up. Other times we find that we must embrace our struggles and find our strength learning that we can survive and even thrive despite having trails to deal with. While loss is something that we may feel every day and can never be fully healed from, knowing that we can go on is a strength in and of itself.
So, change your view of what strength is. It’s not just the tough guy, macho man type, it’s the mother holding it together for her children, it’s a teenage boy coming out to his parents, it is what you make it. Be strong by being you in your own way and face life’s struggles in your own way. Even sometimes, asking for help is strength. Go and surprise yourself, find your strength!
