In my own personal experience I had a bully, let’s call him J. J. would say and do all kinds of terrible things to me through elementary. Stealing my money, hitting me, and saying hateful things were the kinds of things that he would do. During middle school he and I didn’t have contact so he didn’t bully me then. When I got to high school and we were freshmen he committed suicide. Until then I was never aware that he had such a troubled life at home. Maybe bullies drive others to suicide because they themselves are suicidal.
Of course the studies seem to indicate that the opposite is true. As an outside observer it has made me rethink things. In my own search it seems that one segment of bullies runs counter to the research, the narcissistic ones. Now the man who targeted Leslie Jones does seem to be a narcissist as he calls himself the most fabulous super villain on the internet. While most people think that narcissists are in love with themselves, that is because the apparent self love is to cover that imperfections that they see within themselves.
So, what do you think? Are bullies self loathing people who want others to hurt as well? Or are they hyper-confident as some studies indicate? Please feel free to leave your comments below and share this post with your friends. Have a great weekend!
